Collision
so on my way to uni.. some people decided to have a car accident... how inconsiderate of them. this resulting in me being late for todays guest lecture. One that I really wanted to be at... but as it turned out, with techincal difficulties and stuff in uni, I arrived on time. (note: the people were fine in the accident.. just some dented cars)
So the guest lecturer was Chris Hopewell from Collision. A company who specialise mainly in music videos. Some of the major artists they have worked with are:
Radiohead
Elbow
Editors
Wildhearts
Turbonegro
The Zutons
The Killers
Razorlight
Franz Ferdinand
and many more...
(For more info on Collision, visit the website: http://www.collisionfilms.com/)
I had looked up on the website before hand to have a look at what they have done, and I was really amazed as some of the videos are favourites of mine. Mainly Radiohead - There There. I loved that when I first saw it, i'm not a huge Radiohead fan, but I loved the video. So it was nice to see who was behind it all and to hear about the making of it.
I really enjoyed the lecture, I took down some notes for how to progress in the field of music videos. Being that I had made a video forHelen Love, I wanted to know more about the industry. And it was interesting to hear him talk about his experiances on working with some videos that I can relate to from when working on Helen Love.
Afterwards I had to say something to him and talk to him about the video I had done.. just a shame I forgot to bring it with me.. But he seemed alright with the idea of taking the website address. The only person where I had got a decent crit from on the video was by Dave Surman (tutor), as he has a much better knowledge in the world of making music videos. So I wanted to get my video out and see what feedback I can get from Chris Hopewell.
oh yeah.. I got a dvd of stuff from Collision. Off I go to watch it now
(edit: the dvd is awesome, it has the videos by: Radiohead, Scissor Sisters, Wildhearts, Blode Redhead, Franz Ferdinand and GLC)

Bill Plympton
Today I turned up at uni for my 2pm lecture, when I suddenly remembered... Bill Plympton is here today as a guest speaker..
So it turned out I was about half an hour late, no where to sit, had to sit on the staircase in the lecture theatre. But it was well worth it. I have seen a few guest animators come in, they show there work and how they acheive certain things, tip & tricks etc, but Bill had a A3 pad which he would draw on and conjour up these drawings really quick, explaining how to do this and that, key things to remember in animating and such
really helpful stuff
He showed us alot of his films, tests he was working on. Then gave advice on how to get into the buisness, recommended some film festivals to goto
It was awesome and such a shame that I missed the first part of it all
At the end he was selling dvd's and books and signing cards with his autograph and a quick sketch of one of his characters.
