the new ipod podcast playback…

Average Reading Time: about a minute.

some screenshots of the new ipod update shows it’s screen for playing podcasts with Apple’s proprietary chapters…lovely interface and a bloody useful feature. Apparently this supports displaying sequences of images linked to chapters when played back on colour ipod and within itunes, you can have urls appear.
I’ve just tried this and it works a treat…except not in my revB ipod :-(
And the chapter popup in itunes (use the podfinder show for a good example) is excellent…jumps straight to various chapters…(been around in quicktime for a while).
So, let’s see – chapter-based, embedded url laced audio files that get automatically downloaded into free software…such a good opportunity for a structured set of lessons.
How long until Audible features a ‘learn french’ pay-for-podcast set of lessons – new lesson automatically appears every week – full of links to tests, side-notes etc.
And add video into the mix in the near future…oooh…
IT conversations will be even more fantastic if they add this to the mix – their recordings from conferences with photos playing through and links to speaker’s blogs etc.
Nothing fantastically new, if you look at all the parts individually, but it’s that tipping point of bringing them together into such a ubiquitous and zeitgeisty device.
