Skypecasts

Average Reading Time: less than a minute.

A pal invited me to his Skypecast – a CB Radio style free for all, with some fascinating potential.
Basically, it’s a audio chat room/teleconference, initiated by one person (who has some rudimentary controls) and open to all.
A quick run-through show the usual geek tests, but also coaching, education and other social, business and educational activities.
And the new focus on social groups and collaboration – is that a manifestation of ebay’s acquisition?
I’m really impressed by Skype’s continuing innovation. I just noticed they’re doing conferencing, aggregation of billing to a single account for businesses and other ‘enterprise’ stuff…The absolute simplicity, almost always great voice quality would scare the shit out of me if I was Webex, Interwise etc.
Why would I buy a complex, expensive solution to handle teleconferences? Are interactive whiteboards and application sharing worth the bundled expense, when there’s apps that do that individually?
Now, the $2.5 billion doesn’t look so dumb, when it was an entry point into taking over the world’s tele-conferencing market?
