RSS usage

Average Reading Time: about a minute.

EVHEAD: just the right amount of time for it to kick in
“…I think mainstream RSS aggregation will happen on servers and the interface will be a browser – i.e., you’ll go to a URL and get the feeds you want…”
Spot on. This is exactly what I plan on building for myself, when I get a spare few hours. Basically, use the rss feed tool I use here, set it with cron to refresh every hour and suck in articles, bbc news and so on into a collection of boxes on a web page. Should be relatively simple, well, it is now that I spent a bit of time doing it here and have figured out the listing, excerpt sizing etc.
This should mean that I look at one web page a day, and the ol’ portal paradigm comes back with a vengeance. O’Reilly do meerkat which is an rss powered portal, but it ain’t pretty. And one of the main features of radio is that it agregates rss feeds and does it really well. But I want it on my web server, so I can access it from a webcafe. So, I shall build it myself. Eventually. If I get time.
