Office 2003 – One Note

Average Reading Time: less than a minute.

A lot of the reviews of Office seem to focus on rights management (see previous post), new xml forms and collaboration. Interesting of course, for reasons good and bad
I think One Note looks like the most interesting application. Essentially it’s a idea manager/outliner, but it’s got some very cool features. One of these is the management of scribbled note – I think One Note’s the killer app that tablet PCs may need to be actually useful.
One thing that looks really interesting and something I’ve not seen before is the ability to record audio and timestamp your notes in correlation to the audio recorded. This sounds amazing – I could (well, if I used a PC ;-) record a meeting/presentation/lecture/whatever and then when coming across a particularly cryptic note click and hear the recording of the actual speaker that I’d annotated.
Fabulous productivity tool. Now, all I need to do is use AppleScript to get my isight, Amadeus and TinderBox to talk to each-other to do the same thing ;-)
