Macmini the *perfect* workgroup server?
Average Reading Time: less than a minute.
Ooooh, I’m so into the new Mac minis. Ok, they’re everything that a Shuttle mini-atx pc is, except not as powerful, but the Mac Mini is smaller and well, let’s be honest, a Mac. Now, slap in MovableType, maybe a WIKI MySQL and you’ve got a v. cheap, tiny, quiet, beautiful LAMP worksgroup server.
I wonder how many of these will sell? I think orgs would love to have one of these sitting in the corner, serving up blogs and files and generally undermining the multi-million quid tech-heavy collaboration infrastructure that generally gets pitched. I mean, a mac-mini with the above installed would cost way less than the *licence* costs of say, SharePoint, wouldn’t it?
Of course, I’ll be sticking one under my telly with an Airport card, video and audio out, connected to my stereo and store files, mp3s and divxs – a grand for a Windows media centre? I don’t think so!
