I’m all excited…by a printer…
Average Reading Time: about a minute.
now, let me disclaim that I dislike the idea of printing from an ecological perspective, and I’ve avoided buying a scanner for several years, simply because every time I’ve needed on I’ve used a camera instead…and got by.
but I finally broke down and bought an all in one hp device…because it has an ethernet port…
Dave Winer caught my eye as he raved http://www.flickr.com/photos/scriptingnews/87570072/ (a HP 2570) – and then someone linked to an old (’98?) post of his about devices that shoudl come with built in web servers…8 years later…and it’s an affordable reality.
It is one of the neatest things I’ve seen in a long time…it’s got a built in embedded web server…but the cool thing is – I click scan, up pops my mac (courtesy of some installed software and bonjour) and poof – it sends the scanned image straight into preview (or word, etc)
how fucking cool is that?
Obviously it’s cooler, because it’s networked, so anyone on my wifi network, like my gf’s imac can share the device…
I’m very chuffed…
It was £150 – and is just like a ‘grown up’ workgroup printer/scanner…
very slick setup, dead simple…very hp.
