IBM to support OpenDocument early next year | Tech News on ZDNet: “‘The governments of India, China and other emerging markets are very interested in this,’ Fontaine said. ‘They don’t have the legacy of having everything saved in Microsoft Office to transition from…This is an opportunity to start out right.’”
This is fascinating – hot on the heels of Microsoft’s ‘kimono opening’ of the office file format (well, at least future formats).
Interesting to see the emphasis on lack of legacy. I think legacy _kills_ innovation in big companies – and this is why BRIC will start to dominate the information landscape within a few years (although will language and lack of translation cause problems?)
