Gates and Ozzie: How to Escape E-Mail Hell
Average Reading Time: about a minute.
Interesting (year old) interview with Bill Gates and Ray Ozzie about how to ‘escape email hell’
I’m clearing through my drafts folder in MarsEdit and publishing the half finished articles if they’re still interesting… I think this one is.
Email’s becoming a real bugbear in organisations – so many people are spending hours a day creating project narratives, documenting ideas, creating knowledge and stating their expertise and then sending it to be obscured in a ‘selected few’ people’s already overwhelming email archive.
MS and the whole Outlook/Exchange hegemony must be a great opportunity to leverage collaboration and knowledge-sharing through a familiar interface – bloody hell, just the inclusion of a ‘publish’ button in Outlook that connected to a flat html page for that person would an incredible step forward.
Mind you, with Ray Ozzie as CTO, I’m really excited about Microsoft – in fact, I’m more interested in the long-term activities of Microsoft than I am Apple…bloody hell, I never thought I’d say that!
It’s definitely got something to do with actually being able to _see_ what’s going on with Microsoft through blogs and Channel9, vs. the obsessive secrecy of Apple.
Mind you, Apple has me rushing to see their latest cool shit whenever it appears – I guess it’s fair to say I’m _excited_ about Apple and really _interested_ in Microsoft :-)
