I just don’t see anything exciting here here, just big companies who’ve grown their ‘innovation capability’ by acquisition.
This industry is ripe for disruptive players.
How will SumTotal react to their own customer installing a wiki and seeing their customers start to teach each other and collaborate?
What does an LMS actually do that’s worth the $$$’s vs. the cost of a single smart employee with some open source enthusiasm starts giving blogs to experts in their company?
I wonder what the cost of Channel 9, Microsoft’s video blog setup cost vs. their SumTotal installation and operation?
I’ll hazard a guess that Microsoft had lower costs for Channel9, but it had way more impact, learning results, collaboration results and attitude change than e-learning courseware delivered through it’s LMS.
