A tipping point for mainstream blog acceptance?

“Gates described to his audience, which included Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, Michael Dell, Carly Fiorina, Barry Diller and other top business executives, how blogs worked and suggested that they could be used as a tool for businesses to communicate with customers.
“It’s getting away from the drawbacks of e-mail and the drawbacks of a Web site,’ Gates said, “We’re progressively getting better and better at it.”
So, the big guy calls it, mainstream follows? I think successful blogging strategy is pure pareto – 80% thinking and sweating the human side (does your co. culture support free thought, can your co. handle open debate, how to encourage/reward blogging? etc.) and 20% tech implementation. Actually it’s more like 98/2.
While I was reading round MS stuff, came across Microsoft’s alerts service, a server based push service to IM, email, etc. I wonder whether there’s already aBlo.gs runs a service that lets you get updates from blogs through IM.
Now this type of Instant Messenger update, embedded as a Movable Type plugin, running a project blog would work really well – pushed updates to the client team. And *so* cheap and easy to install – all that’s left is the 98% sweat to get people to adopt them…
