web apps conference…

Average Reading Time: less than a minute.

I attended the web apps ‘summit’ yesterday.
I had mixed feelings about it, I thought it was because I hadn’t learnt much due to previous ‘blog absorption’. Mind you, Tom Coates talk was superb, as was Ryan Carson’s talk on building apps on a budget – he went through _real numbers_!
I’ve just come across someone’s mindmapped notes on flickr, and I think it must have been because I was knackered that I didn’t get into it as much, because the notes seem a damn site better and have more information than I picked up.
Sidenote: The whole day was thankfully uncommercial – even the adobe (“formerly macromedia” :-) presales guy’s presentation wasn’t that bad (and only 15 mins long). he showed off flex, which i really like the idea of using for ‘playful’ data interaction (like a reporting interface), but I’m completely confused about pricing…if it’s a few grand, that could buy some ajax king-fu interface development time, couldn’t it? :-)
Still, I pine for a hypercamp or a ‘unconference‘ – the ‘lecture’ style just doesn’t cut it for me.
