Matt Webb’s brilliant analysis of the ‘Zyoon’
Average Reading Time: about a minute.
I’m a huge fan of Matt Webb and Jack Schulze ; as I think everyone who’s ever had the luck to attend one of Matt’s talks becomes.
I try and remember (now subscribed) to go and read their blog occasionally – always a rewarding way to spend the time it takes to consume a cup of tea, I find.
I’m glad I visited, there’s a brilliant piece of suggested design around the Zune media player.
Take this idea for a feature:
bq. “Community. What if the Zune synchronised with a desktop application like iTunes crossed with Flickr crossed with mix tapes? It’d take the best of the Web’s curatorial culture and let people create, share and gift playlists, with facilities for illustration and story-telling.”
The ideas around community form the basis of Webb’s ‘Generation C‘ model – worth reading – it’s really good, bullshit free analysis in the consumer R&D space, without all the obsfucation that usually goes on from other consultancies.
Even the comments are good!
bq. “The constraint I like to play with is this: what are the smallest, most opportunistic changes that have the biggest ROI? By opportunistic, I mean they make use of existing technology, or new, well-understood technology, and that the organisational complexity required is low because the changes can be implemented by single teams.”
I know they’re focused on situational and adaptive design, but I wonder whether they’ll end up branching into rockstar business process coaching in the way IDEO have done…?
And I can’t wait to get my hands on a final version of their Social Radio
