Got Game?: Corante’s new blog on games

Average Reading Time: about a minute.

Corante.com, a tech news site, is also the home of a batch of excellent blogs, each focused on one aspect of the tech industry. “Got Game?: the future of play” is the newest addition to the roster. Written by Andy Phelps, an assistant professor at RIT with longstanding “addictions” to game design and gameplaying, the site looks to be an exciting and stimulating collection of articles and essays on the cultural impact of games.
In his introductory essay, Andy lays out the focus of the blog, telling us it will concentrate on:

  1. Emerging Gaming technologies
  2. Emerging Social Phenomena Surrounding Games
  3. Emergence of Games as a Societal Medium
  4. Emergence of Games in Academia

And, he quickly emphasizes that the site will not be a game review site, nor will it be a game technology site. Already, his articles have discussed his attempts to institute a Master’s Degree program in Game Design & Development, the corruption of game design theorists by their own technology, theft and trust in online communities, and some reasons for the rise of games as a major activity for young people. All very good reading, and I’m looking forward to more.
