Education and propaganda

Average Reading Time: less than a minute.

eSchool News online reports on a new curriculum for elementary & middle schools called “Play It Safe in Cyberspace”. The curriculum , developed by the Business Software Alliance (BSA), a trade group of software developers, seeks to teach students the anti-piracy line.

One activity has students write their principal a letter that explains what they’ve learned about software piracy and then asks the principal to initiate a software audit of the school’s software.

Despicable as it seems, is this any different than other subsidized curricula, such as those developed by the various dairy industry groups, energy industry groups, and environmental defense groups?
What is the place of sponsored curricula in education?
