Well, the web’s awash with the inevitable news, and it makes me think the bubble is simply an exciting R&D lab based mainly in SF.
The main action seems to be in ‘build to flip’ business models, which is fine, when you think about it, as the big boys are simply viewing these companies as R&D labs…and picking the finest.
It’s Darwinian R&D, the ecosystem is provided by a mix of open standards and open source, ‘free’ software and cheap (to start) hardware, good ideas and new social trends, some neat formats (RSS), some vc funding.
And then it’s survival of the fittest, where fitness is defined by social use, smart execution and usability. In fact, some of that ecosystem is often the exhaust from the big animals via APIs
Yahoo, Google, whoever, gets to buy people and ideas it couldn’t/wouldn’t develop itself.
And we all benefit, as long as we keep clicking on those adwords…
