Curseware…
Average Reading Time: less than a minute.
In this blog post, you will learn:
* Why courseware sucks
* A confession from a recovering Instructional Designer
* A rant
Hmmm, so I misspelt a message I was writing about some pre-existing courses I’m helping a client turn into Disability compliant content – and I typed curseware.
Sounds about right – a rather apt title for all the crap courseware I’ve seen in my time. I’m not entirely blameless in the malaise of the e-learning industry of course, I’ve designed my share of ‘courseware’ with the best of ‘em.
But this structured, ‘narrative’ and 45 minute ‘in this module, you will learn’ stuff just isn’t working.
Instructional Design is a complete and utter oxymoron, battered into the abyss of pointless abstraction by direct voices of employees (gasp) talking to each-other through meetings, blogs, email, etc.
Ok, I’ll stop before I get carried away…
p.s. I do think the ‘preacher’ model of writing/speaking works well, just not *all* the time…
* Tell them what you’re going to tell them
* Tell them
* Tell them what you’ve just told them
Maybe I should blog in PowerPoint styles…or passive/aggressive email style…
