Cuba has (2nd) best healthcare system in the world…

Fascinating segment on Newsnight at the moment looking at Cuba’s health system (oh, Canada has the best healthcare :-)
Interesting, because arguably the US embargo has had a bunch of unintended consequences:
* Preventation rather than cure:
Because funds are so tight, the pragmatic approach to medicinal care is _preventative_ medicinal care, not reactive.
* Healthier eating
The embargo has meant rationing, which has basically meant people are eating a balanced diet. And a lack of US fast food firms has meant _no junk food_
* More active lifestyle
Public transport is spotty (and low levels of car ownership), which means people are walking a lot more…
And there’s something like 170 US medical students at the teaching hospital where they filmed…with good reason – it costs ~200,000USD to train as a doctor in the states!
