Stand: Defining Digital Freedoms In The UK
“…Hands up everybody who’s really excited about the introduction of universal Identity Cards for every man, woman and child in the UK…”
Well, here’s another example of the web being put to good use – if you’re in the UK and don’t agree with the implementation of of ID cards, please go visit this site and e-mail your dissaproval to the home office. You can also go and e-mail your MP through faxyourmp another superb example of web enabling democracy. And there’s a link off to cleanpolitix who do a nice website that lists UK political contributions. Again, easy, fast, effective grassroots democracy through the web.
A friend had to pay his traffic fine through Camden council’s website the other day. I think he was secretly pleased to be able to (well, ok, pleased is a little extreme). The reason? Well, when he logged in with his code that was sent through the post, there were three photos from the traffic camera, clearly showing him in the bus lane. Rather nifty process – automatically pulling photo data from the cameras, assigning a ticket and placing the unarguable evidence on the (pretty good) website, linked to an online payment engine.
And you can even complain online – excellent – a britsh hobby brought to the web.
