Instructional Design Models Wow. A pretty hefty list of fun sounding educational models.
I’m not sure that i haven’t let myself in for an insane amount of work with this MA – mind you, it’s fun/challenging/scary/depressing (delete as appropriate) to realise how little I actually know about education. I realise now how, a few years ago, when teaching (well training) for the first time I simply had no idea about any of this stuff. Not a clue. I just went with instinct and adrenaline.
In retrospect I see how I was dealing with learning by metaphor, using simulations and so on. I just didn’t know what I was doing – it just felt instinctively the right thing to do. Ignorance is bliss, huh?
“…Models, like myths and metaphors, help us to make sense of our world. Whether it is derived from whim or from serious research, a model offers its user a means of comprehending an otherwise incomprehensible problem. An instructional design model gives structure and meaning to an I.D. problem, enabling the would-be designer to negotiate her design task with a semblance of conscious understanding. Models help us to visualize the problem, to break it down into discrete, manageable units…”
