Yes, we’re back from the dead – how easily a month and a half can fly by when you’re not watching. Ok, here’s my commitment to at least thrice weekly posting.
As a further appalling insight into my “I’ll do it tomorrow” procrastination, I actually have a list of topics that I’ve meant to talk about.
First of these is the eyetoy, a cool usb camera that sells for £25 and plugs into a playstation. So far, so logitech, but the eyetoy actually shows an image of you within games and responds to hand movements within it’s line of sight.
I came across this at my cousin’s house -and happened to have a full generational complement of family members (from my 7 year old daughter to 70 year old grandma). Amazing to see how everyone ‘got’ it – the interface, so simple, delight from everyone to see true interaction.
The games are pretty rudimentary, but I’d love to see a higher resolution version for a pc. I can see great educational applications – ‘holding’ artifacts, even practicing surgery!
Interesting intro to an article about the eyetoy within Tekka a rather interesting looking webzine (“…TEKKA is the new Web magazine about enjoying new media and creating beautiful software…”). And I came across that from Eastgate’s Tinderbox website a rather nifty thinking tool, but I don’t want to use my thrice weekly limit all in one post ;-)
