Fantastic – watching the BBC smartly grasp, plan and start to deliver a web content strategy is incredibly pleasing. And they’re managing to handle the legal issues, I think by focusing on content they produce. No doubt there’s been a clause in all their contracts to their production companies (endemol, hatrick etc.) that allows for web distribution. It’s *our* content after all, we paid for it!
Interesting quote: “The BBC received a “wake-up call” about the demand for new technology in March when the first episode of the new Doctor Who was leaked on to the internet, (director of TV Jana Bennett) said.”
Hmmm, like the plans weren’t already in place and this was a convenient nudge for senior management who didn’t ‘get’ it? Smart thinking. HBO, are you next?
