Golden Notebook project - discussion on structure

There's an interesting comment thread, Is the form in conflict with the aims? (complete with troll!) on 'The Golden Notebook', the collaborative reading project I mentioned earlier this week.

The thread is a nice summary of a few concerns that some readers have (whose being paid, does the structure work? Why limit the main page comments?, etc). These sort of complaints only come from people carding enough to bother to complain, which I think means the project hits an early milestone.

At the bottom of the thread is a great insight into the motivations of Bob Stein of The Institute for theFuture of the Book, whose ideas led to the project being created.

I like this project more and more - I'm possibly even changing my mind about whether this is a format more suited to non-fiction (I'm really hoping they do another project like this with a non-fiction work); clearly any book worth discussing would suit this environment.

One thing would help me with 'flow', I think - the ability to toggle the discussions in the sidebar; might help first time reader absorb the text more easily (i keep flitting to the conversation as I track left to right).
